Wheal Agar

This mine was situated in the parish of Illogan between Camborne and Redruth in the central mining district of Cornwall.  In the 1850's it was essentially a copper mine with a small production of tin, and had a pay roll of 40 to 60 men, women and boys.  It did not have the good fortunes of its its rich neighbour, East Pool, which eventually took it over in 1897 trading under the name of East Pool and Agar Ltd.

The pages in this web site summarise the work that went on both underground and on surface during the life of the Cost Book from October 1855 until November 1859.

In total the shaft sinking and tunnelling by hand boring amounted to  2,067 metres.

The cost in running the mine for four years to produce a small amount of copper ore and tin concentrate was £20,876.
